26 June 2007: FLW and Bauhaus
FLW's Fallingwater is my all time dream home in terms of its architectural design and setting - a practical yet creative house on top of a waterfall surrounded by a beautiful forest.
A home at one with the nature.
When I began conceptualising 2611 almost four years ago, it was hacienda-like - old, cosy, warm, earthen, almost hidden by flora and fauna. The verbal Archie proposal of a modern architecture conjured up images of a cold glass house. However, after I saw a drawing of the proposal (see art piece on the righthand panel), I changed my mind - 'modern' in the sense of International Modernism.
International Modernism was adapted for Fallingwater in 1935. Seventy years later, it is still somewhat 2611 is based on - stark and ordered variety.
26 June 2007: in a limbo state - so near yet so far
Limbo, and not in the rocking manner. I feel like I am moving into 2611 very soon, and yet not ... I am impatient and frustrated, and yet I am patient and calm ...
The contractor is already a month and half over the dateline. And there are the zillion things to fit in now. And things are being fitted ever so slowly.
The latest excitement in the past two weeks are the windows - frames and the sky window. The sky roof has also been painted (black), tile works (walls and floors) are 70% done, some cement countertops have been built (kitchens), my bathroom is finally spotting additions after being bare for months ...
